SKIN CARE – 5 HABITS THAT IS HURTING YOUR SKIN

As kids we were blessed with that baby soft, smooth, clean and clear skin but as we grew up we saw many changes happening to our skin.

Both external and internal factors plays a vital role when it comes to healthy looking skin. First let me get this straight

CHOOSE HEALTHY SKIN OVER PERFECT SKIN

Your skin is going to get acne, scars, blemishes, patches and that’s okay !

Don’t stress yourself when you see that pimple. With the right care and products or maybe a skin care professional, that can be CURED !

But you can’t get healthy skin just by being positive. It requires work, A lot of work actually! Your blessed if you got a good skin but strugglers like me who struggle to bring out the best version of their skin should know that your daily habits has a huge impact on your skin.

Let’s begin with these common habits that are actually hurting your skin

NOTE : We all have different skin type so what may hurt oily skin may not hurt dry skin.

1. UNHEALTHY GREASY DIET !

In my case THIS WAS THE MAJOR ISSUE.

All that burgers, fries, onion rings, pizza, cheesy dips & I am drooling! That can really harm your skin.

How an unhealthy diet can directly impact your skin

Some research suggests that insulin may play a role in acne. You might wanna keep your diet clean. Not just for better skin but also for overall health. Not only greasy unhealthy diet affects your skin but it also has a negative impact on your mental health.

Research says that “People who consume clean and healthy diet have a better mental and physical health compared to those who don’t”

  • Include more fruits and vegetable in your diet.
  • Avoid fried and oily food at all cost.
  • Don’t drink aerated drinks.
  • Add vitamin C to your diet.

2. AVOIDING SUNSCREEN

When I was in junior college one of my good friend introduced me to sunscreen. It was her dermatologist that prescribed her sun protection. Me on the other hand ignored the damage my skin went through because of sun.

I saw a great difference in my skin when I started using sunscreen. Not only I got rid of blemishes but also my skin was looking healthier. Sunscreen really protects your skin from the UV rays that can cause huge damage to your skin.

PRO TIP : Don’t apply sunscreen once and forget. Reapply the sunscreen

3. NOT CHANGING PILLOW CASE

Honestly this one is one of the major habit we all have.

Please change that pillow case often because it literally carries so much bacteria and toxins that is invisible to naked eye.

Using the same pillow case for months will harm your skin to a greater extent.

If you have acne problems use

  • Cotton pillow case as this absorb moisture, reducing sebum buildup, which will minimize acne breakouts
  • Silk Pillow case

4. DEHYDRATION

Water is not only important for skin but it is equally important for your brain and other parts of the body.

Lack of water consumption will cause dehydration. Not just that it will also cause dry skin because your skin needs optimum moisture that is provided by water.

Drinking water increases skin elasticity, keeping your skin healthy and glowing.

Many people often report that by increasing their water intake, their skin has a more radiant glow

5. STRESS

Yes, Psychological stress affects the Immune System

Stress and anxiety have a tremendous impact on our immune system,”

David Tolin, PhD, director of the Anxiety Disorders Center at Hartford Hospital’s Institute of Living

Does psychological stress affect the immune system? YES! It does. Psychological stress weakens our immunity in ways our mind can’t even imagine.

Psychological stress is triggered by plenty of things like work, relationships, family matters, finances, education, etc. In fact for some, even the tiniest thing causes them a lot of stress. Stress has a negative impact on our immunity. It disturbs the harmony connecting your mind and body, leading to a disturbance at the physical and mental planes.

Maybe that is why we hear people saying all the time ” Don’t stress yourself!”

I am sure you have heard these terms acute (severe and sudden in onset)and chronic(long-developing syndrome). When a person is stressed for a very long period of time, it is more likely that he is suffering from “chronic stress” or “long-term stress” This makes his body expose and susceptible to invite disease-causing agents.

Any kind of traumatic event does has an effect on the mind of a person. It depends on an individual how they deal with it. Some people can handle it very well but there is always some amount of stress caused by that event. On the other hand, it is very hard for some people to handle traumatic events especially if it is unexpected. Any kind of trauma leads to psychological stress in some way. So let’s say a person couldn’t handle the stress very well and that made him go into depression. Depression is always associated with overeating or not eating at all (yes! depression also impacts physical health along with mental health). Both of these conditions can cause diseases like obesity that lead to heart problems and anorexia nervosa that leads to nutrition deficiencies respectively.

Did you see how all of it affects the immune system? It weakens the natural immunity of our body and disables it slowly. When we’re stressed, the immune system’s ability to fight is reduced.

“Numerous studies confirm that mental stress has a direct effect on the immune system, and therefore probably a decisive influence on the development of disease”

Dr. Annette Sommershof

Stress-immune system is a very vast concept so let us stick to the basics. When we are in situations that cause stress, the power of the immune system is suppressed by stress hormones mainly cortisol. You see the immune system is suppressed which leads to escalating susceptibility to disease-causing agents.

Dr. Sommershof states that PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder) patients have reduced immunity.

If you keep worrying and stressing yourself throughout your life your body will never get used to functioning normally because you are constantly giving missions to your immunity which are not required. This really harms your immunity.

TIPS TO REDUCE STRESS

Stress management plays an important role so let us learn how. Start by practicing little things given below:

  • Exercise produces endorphins—a chemical in the brain that reduces stress.
  • Practice meditation
  • Stay in touch with your hobbies because they act as a stress-buster
  • Reading articles about stress management and following them in your real life
  • Therapy
  • Social activities
  • Daily journal. Maintain a happy and positive journal wherein you write the best you have seen that day

So yes! that is it. I tried to make this article simple and easy to understand. I didn’t dive deep into medical language as I want you all to chief value and go that is useful and good for your mind.

5 BENEFITS OF GUAVA

Guava used to be my favourite fruit when I was in school (still is). When I used to ask for salty chips my mom used to buy me guava where they sprinkle chaat masala on top of it. Well I used to lick all the chat masala and then later devour the goodness of guava fruit. Sometimes I used to spit out the seeds because my teeth couldn’t handle the hard seeds. Might sound silly but it is a memory I look back and cherish. I didn’t knew the health benefits of guava back then but now I do so let’s begin.

Guava has so many health benefits. It is filled with nutrients necessary for your body. Guava is rich in vitamin C (228mg) and we all know Vitamin C is important for proper and normal functioning of human body and deficiency of Vitamin C causes health problems (eg scurvy)

Here I will give you top 5 health benefits by consuming Guava fruit –

1. FIGHTS AGAINST LOWERING BLOOD PRESSURE

High blood pressure is a condition in which the force of the blood against the arterial walls is too high. People having hypertension are advised to make some healthy changes in their diet. Adding guava in your diet helps in lowering your blood pressure.

This fruit is packed with loads of potassium and soluble fibre that help to lower your cholesterol levels. Also potassium and vitamin C is good for your health. Scientists have revealed that five guavas a day for three months lowers your blood pressure.

The antioxidants in guava leaf have the potential to lower high blood pressure.  It is possible that an increased consumption of guava fruit can cause a substantial reduction in BPs and blood lipids with a lack of decrease in HDL-cholesterol due to its higher potassium and soluble fibre content, respectively.

2. GOOD FOR SKIN

Guava is rich in vitamin C (228.3 mg ) and antioxidants which is great for your skin. I’ve mentioned earlier in my blog that antioxidant protects your skin against harmful UV rays. It reduces wrinkles on your skin giving you a healthy looking skin. Guava juice is also very hydrating for your skin.

Applying guava leaf on your skin reduces acne (because the antiseptic properties kills acne causing bacteria) and reduces dark spots.

3. REDUCES THE RISK OF HEART DISEASES

Now by now I know most of you know that I am obsessed with antioxidants. Antioxidants in guava fight oxidative damage cause by free radicals.

It improves your heart health health in many ways. Like I said earlier it reduces high blood pressure and studies also shows that this fruits lowers your cholesterol levels which is a good news to your heart. It promotes good cholesterol and lowers bad cholesterol.

Vitamin C also shows significant results in improving heart health and now we all know that guava is rich in vitamin C (also I am currently writing a blog on 20 fruits rich in vitamin C. Why Vitamin C is so important for your health).

4. TREATS CONSTIPATION

Constipation occurs when there is less bowel movements and the stools become hard and difficult to pass.

Guava is excellent source of dietary fibres. These fibres provide healthy bowel movements and prevents constipation.

5. IMMUNITY BOOSTER

A strong immune system is very important in providing a natural protection against illnesses.

Guava is rich in antioxidants, nutrients and vitamin C and all of this help in boosting your immunity. You should also try guava juice as it helps in boosting your immune system.

9 THINGS QUARANTINE HAS TAUGHT US!

“We are all born free and spend a lifetime becoming slaves to our own false truths”

Atticus

Hello Readers ! I hope you all are doing well. I know some of you are getting bored to tears in this lockdown because it feels like watching your favourite colour paint dry.

We’re all waiting for quarantine to be over so that we can finally get breathe some fresh air and spend some time with our loved ones and have fun. I bet you’re gonna make some best memories of your life the moment quarantine is over.

But being quarantined is not that anaemic as it sounds. It’s actually pretty refreshing.

So in this blog I’m gonna tell you 9 Things Quarantine has Taught us !

1. Your Family Is The Best Team You Could Ever Have !

Family is the greatest treasure of our lives.

So many of you are experiencing some unforgettable moments with your Mom, Dad and your annoying-but-cute siblings. You have also learned some new things about them which was hidden behind that brick-like personality. It’s like this time is strengthening the bonds which became loose over the period of time. You’re finally getting to know each other!

“The most important thing in the world is family and love” – John Wooden

2. You Can Be The Next Masterchef!

Well! I’m sure your family can’t stop appreciating your cooking skills because your food tastes so good.

You’ve cooked maximum food in this quarantine than you’ve ever cooked before.

You are so talented that you even replaced your mom in cooking and now everyone is bugging you to make them snacks whenever they’re hungry. And the fun part is that you’re actually liking it !

Bon Appétit

3. You Even Miss The People You Never Talked to!

I bet you’re even missing some people right now that you never talked to. It’s like you wish you had good relations with these people to check up on them.

Not just that but you’re also missing them with whom you have feuds with. It’s like you want to press a restart button and start new beginnings with them without disputes and bitterness in your relationships. You still stand a chance to be great friends with people you had sour past with.

When this quarantine is over I hope you finally apply some CC cream (means courage and confidence) and make your move to start a new friendship with them.

Let’s call it as “Jung”

4. Animals In Zoo Feels the Same Way We Feel About This Lockdown

I have attached an image below just try to understand this in deep. Animals feel the same way we feel about this lockdown. Can you imagine being like this FOREVER ? Scary! Right? The last time you met your lover, friend, family member or anyone, you never thought that was the last time you’re gonna see them before lockdown and now some of you are regretting because there is so much things that are unsaid. You wish you could go back in time and start something as soon as possible. This is exactly what happens with animals.

Now before any zoo expert comes to me and argues with me on animals behavioural pattern I just want to say one thing

“EVERY LIVING BEING ON THIS PLANET DESERVES FREEDOM”

A zoo is an entertainment PRISON

5. Self- Discipline

John C Maxwell once said

“Motivation gets you going, but discipline keeps you growing”

Quarantine has given us all the time in the world to change our outlook towards the many things. It’s like a lesson to many of us that we should start realising the importance of “self-discipline”

You’re more mature than you think you are.

• You’re at peace with who are.

• You’re respecting yourself and others around you.

• You have opened doors to deeper understanding.

• You’re not letting negativity affect you anymore.

• You want to sleep early, wake up early and start your day with positivity.

• Winning an argument doesn’t get you excited anymore. (Well this one I’m not sure about 😅)

“The first and best victory is to conquer self” – Plato

6. Exploring The Creative Side Of You

Tons and tons of people are finally getting time to explore their hobbies and reunite with old hobbies. Whether it’s writing, painting, drawing, singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument or anything you are exploring it all over again. It’s like this is the best time of your life to create something best out of your hobby and show the world that education is more than just books. Educate the world through your hobby and motivate people to follow their passion.

“ Creativity is Intelligence having fun” – Albert Einstein

7. Feeling of Gratitude.

What is Gratitude? It’s the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.

Feel grateful about the fact that you have a place to live in, healthy food to eat, water to drink and enough money to survive in this lockdown, because there so are many people out there who are stuck in unpleasant situation and struggling to get a simple bread.

So Thank God every moment and let go of all the negativity.

Gratitude is the best medicine. It heals your mind, your body and your spirit. And attracts more things to be grateful for.

8. Mother Earth is Finally Breathing!

Lockdown has a shown a dramatic impact on reducing the pollution. The toxicity in air because of smoke emitted by the factories, vehicles, etc has decreased to a great extent. The pollution levels have lowered and we should be so much grateful for this because “Sometimes All You Need Is A Bout Of Fresh Air”

Here’s a small poem by me,

“The sky is so clear,

Every morning seems so bright,

Birds singing sweet rhymes,

Unwrapping the real meaning of

Love Is In Air

We’re finally breathing some fresh air”

“The poetry of earth is forever alive“

9. You know you MATTER!!!!!!

All the people around you love you so much. If you think you’re alone STOP ! And Look Around. Observe. You will see that each and everyone is holding your hands and we’re all in this together. Your family caring about you. Your true friends entertaining you and above all you’re dealing so well with long distance relationship. So there are people actually holding on to you and not leaving you alone and that’s RARE!

YOU MATTER💕

Don’t forget to tell me more in the comments about what are the other things quarantine has taught you.
